Prayer StationsTrix and Taylor at Prayer Stations

We want to soak this city in prayer during the Olympics; not only praying for the city and what is going on, but to also make ourselves available to pray with people.  From Monday to Saturday during the Games, we will have 4 teams out in various locations within Vancouver, offering prayer to people on the streets. Prayer Stations provide a great opportunity to pray for people in need, in faith, believing that God will hear their prayers, and also to have conversations about our beliefs.

Warming Stations

Through our partnership with More Than Gold, we will be volunteering with the Salvation Army at Skytrain stations, serving beverages to people using transit during the Games.  From the locals heading to work, to the tourists finding their way to the Olympic events, we look forward to reaching out in hospitality, and conversing with people from around the world!   www.morethangold.ca

Union Gospel Mission/Mission Possible

We are blessed to be able to provide local ministries with volunteers for the month of February, serving alongside long-term workers that serve the marginalized of Vancouver.  These ministries open their doors and provide a place of rest, community and resources for its visitors.  Our volunteers will help facilitate their programs, and have the opportunity to meet new people and share life experiences.

Chili Wagon

For the past 10 years, Chili Wagon has been a place of community and a shared meal on Commercial Drive.  Every Tuesday, a team from a local church makes a couple of large pots of chili and takes it down to Grandview Park to share with whoever cares to join!  We will be sending teams to help make chili and banana bread with them, and then serve and hang out with people over dinner.

The Burn

The Burn Vancouver

The church in Greater Vancouver has been united like never before, as we turn to God in unison to pray for our city.  He has been moving in congregations from all over to pray and fast at this time, and to lift up His name in praise.  The Burn is an event that will exalt the name of Jesus, through worship and prayer for 27 straight hours.www.burn24-7.com

Buying Sex is not a Sport

Buying Sex is Not a Sport

This is a grassroots campaign to raise awareness and affect change around sex trafficking and the Olympic Games. The demand for sexual access to the bodies of women and children fuels human trafficking. This campaign is focused on the demand of said trafficking, and we will be participating in peaceful demonstrations with this group to promote dialogue and awareness of the real issues going on. www.embracedignity.org

February 14 Memorial March – A day of memorial for women who have gone missing or been killed from the Downtown East Side. We want to stand in solidarity with those who have been affected, and to be advocates so that change can happen.

Aha! Concerts

University Chapel

This church near the University of British Columbia will be an ‘open doors centre’, providing a place for people in the community to hang out, get a warm drink, or watch an Olympic event. We will have volunteers serving here on various days.

The Great Room

Normally, the Great Room offers women a warm and relaxing refuge in the heart of the Downtown Eastside (DTES). During the Olympics, it is opening its doors to the world. They have trained 12 women from the DTES to serve as “radical hostesses”, to take people on tours and give information about the area.

X-Culture

This church on Commercial Drive will also be an ‘open doors centre’, providing a place for people in the community to hang out, get a warm drink, or watch an Olympic event. We will have volunteers serving here, and it will also be a place to hang out if you are looking for somewhere to go.
